SRQG Annual Holiday Service Project

November 14th, 2011

Members are invited to donate items or cash at the meeting on

Thursday, December 1st, 10:00 am at the Scottish Rite Building

Please come a few minutes early to turn in your donations.

We need empty apple boxes from the grocery store to hold the
sorted donations.

Clothing items don’t have to be new, just clean, in good repair
and still usable.

There is a serious need for children’s clothing and shoes. Please
ask your neighbors, church members, grandchildren for items to
pass on.

Warm clothing, especially outerwear, for men and women. Coats,
sweaters, sweatpants, hats, gloves, socks, scarves, etc. Blankets,
sleeping bags, tents, day-packs, duffel bags, toiletry kits, etc.

Toiletry items – shampoo, soaps, lotions, deodorants and shaving creams
for men and women, toothbrushes and toothpaste, floss, hand sanitizer, etc.

Non-perishable snack food items- granola bars, trail mix, power bars, jerky, candy, gum, etc.
and individual instant soup, hot cocoa, tea, coffee packets, etc.

Cash donations will be used to buy warm boot socks for the homeless
men and women, zip up fleece pajamas for children and hats and gloves.

If you can drive a vehicle on December 1st to help with deliveries, please
let me know. You will be provided with a map, written directions and a phone
number and celestial blessings. Mini-van, (pick-up if the weather is dry), small
or large SUV, car with a large trunk or back seat, etc.

If you can pick up empty boxes and have them to the mtg. by 9:45 am, that would be a big help.

Please bring donations on Dec. 1st.

Any other ideas or questions, please let me know!

Workshop Highlights – “Thread Bar” with Cindy Needham

August 24th, 2011

A thread bar is as much fun as a candy store…which one  to try first!

Cindy talks about some of her favorite tools.

Is it a 5 foot table runner or a shawl?  Actually, it is Cindy Needham’s
creation with thread scraps!

Cindy Needham worked with everyone and answered our many questions!

After listening about thread facts, tidbits and information everyone set out to try different threads.

Participants used different weight threads and learned to adjust the tension for the different threads.

Everyone seem to keep very busy with so many threads to try!

When trying new threads remember to write down the thread name you used on the top and
bottom and the tension setting.  Save this information to use as a reference!

An up close sample of Cindy Needham’s machine quilting.
