Denise Sims, a member of the Guild, passed away this week.  Information was announced for the memorial service.

Norma Viglienzone, Earlene Maffioli, and Mary Wood showed items (a quilt, placemats, and napkins with Norma modeling a matching apron) that would be raffled at the upcoming Pancake Breakfast sponsored by M.O.M.S.  The breakfast will be held at 7: AM on April 13th at Villa Chanticleer.  Proceeds go to the Fisher House.

Judith Clarke announced that the Bija Children’s Choir will present “The Quiltmaker’s Gift” on  April 11th at the Sebastopol Community Center, at 7:00 PM.  Some of our members will be displaying their quilts.

Mirna Estes gave us an update on our beloved Lavella Cassinelli and her bionic knee replacement.  Mirna has decided that filling her shoes is too much work.  Lavella made a long list of duties for Mirna to do before she received her medicine.  Lavella’s husband stated that “If she could limp to get to that club she would”.  A total of 80 quilts will be delivered at today’s meeting to the Valley of the Moon Children’s  Center.

Irons and ironing boards will be placed in the back of the room during each meeting to help iron material for the Community Quilts.

Marquerite Lu will be sending a box of items to the Cherkasy Women’s Center in the Ukraine next week.  She has requested donations of member’s orphan blocks for the center.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Glenda Ross – Opportunity Quilt:  Glenda reminded us that members can still purchase tickets for the raffle quilts.  The raffle drawing will be held at the Guild’s next meeting.

Judith Clarke- Boutique:  A miniature quilt donated by Diana Roberts is one of the items to be raffled today for the boutique.  Judith reminded members of the boutique sewing bees after each meeting.  Help is needed on the 5th Thursday of the month to make items for the MQSC Quilt Show booth.

Tera Antaree – Technique Sharing Workshops:  The schedule has been completed through August for the TSW’s.  The April workshop will be knitted baby caps with several teachers instructing different methods.   Barbara Youngblood has also agreed to show the popular pillow case project on May 15th.  Supply lists will be available on the website.

Linda Hooper – Friendship Block:   A new friendship block entitled “Bear Tracks” was introduced for Doris Maneke.  Linda showed members the blocks she has received for the other four ongoing friendship blocks.

Barbara Cortelyou – Hospitality:  Barbara reminded members that they should sign-up to bring refreshments for their birthday and half birthday months.  She has a collection of pans, dishes, etc. that need to find their original homes.

Phyllis Gallaway – MQSC Liaison:  Moonlight Quilt Show entry and volunteer forms are on the tables today.  They can also be obtained on their website. The entry forms are due this week.   If you volunteer for a time slot, you will get free admission to the show.  Sign-ups for selling raffle tickets for the SRQG Opportunity Quilts do not qualify for free admission.

The April Moonlight workshop is open to Guild members.  Marilyn Doheny will be teaching “Spirals Galore”.    Examples for both Guilds workshops by Marilyn were shown with many oohs and ahs.

MQSC will hold their annual auction Wednesday, April 16th at the Veterans Memorial Building.  They will accept credit cards or checks for the live and silent auctions items.

A Gordian Knot class will be taught by Phyllis at the Quilted Vine on Sunday April 6th.

Phyllis reported for Jan Andrews (who was unable to attend) that the Sew-A-Row projects are due today.   She showed three packets that are in need of sign-ups to add a row.

Mary Wood – Program Chair:  This month’s workshop, entitled “Triad Interlock” will be taught by Marilyn Doheny and held on April 18th.  There are four spaces still available.  This workshop does require some before-class preparation.

Members can sign up for May and June’s workshops.  Two local artists will be featured: Marjan Kluepfel will be teaching “Landscape” on May 16th and Nancy Brown’s workshop, entitled “Cat Faces”, will be June 20th.  To secure a place in the workshop, please pay at the time you sign-up.  If you have an e-mail address, please include it on the sign-up sheet and Mary will e-mail you the supply list.

Kathy Hannan – Block of the Month:  Kathy showed an example of this month’s block. It is  named “Pinwheel Stars “and is in green and cream.  As of this month, the nickel fabric swap will be discontinued due to very little response.   Don’t forget the Challenge for the Founders Luncheon in September.

Sharon Fry – Librarian:   “Sharon the Librarian” ordered rotary cutter blades for members at a reduced price from Hancock.  She has a few extra for sale if anyone is interested.

New and donated books were introduced.  A synopsis of new additions to the library can be read in the newsletter.

A representative from The Valley of the Moon Children’s Home came to today’s meeting to receive the 80 quilts the Guild had made for the home.  Meg thanked the Guild for the wonderful donation and talked a little bit about the children’s home.  A Gordian Knot quilt made by Laurie White and Diana Roberts was presented to the staff of Valley of the Moon.  Tera Antaree donated a baby quilt made by her son’s class for the home.  While working on the quilt with the class, one of the students mentioned that they had a best friend who had been through the home. This gave the project special meaning to her.

Show and Tell was held along with the Fifty-Fifty and name tag drawings.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 AM.

Programs and Workshops

March 28th, 2008

Dear Santa Rosa Quilt Guild Members:

Thank you so much for your support of the Workshops and Programs this year.  We’ve had outstanding  numbers attend the Programs, and the Workshops for the past three months have been full….and the workshop for April is almost filled (4 spaces left).

Thanks to Denise Raney for planning such a wonderful selection of Programs this year.

Just a couple of reminders about how to help me make the Workshops run smoother:

Classes must be paid for at the time you sign up.  Your place in the class is secured with your payment.

Members of ANY guild pay only $35 for each workshop.  Non guild members pay $45.

If you are not enrolled in the Workshop, please do not come and visit.  Even during lunch.  Those who have paid for the class deserve the undivided attention of the teacher.

A new request…supply lists will be available at the time you sign up (and pay) for those who do not have email.  For  those who have email I’ll send the supply list to you along with  reminders about the class.  Also, the supply list for the Workshop is available on our guild website thanks to Phyllis Gallaway.

Thank you again for your support of Programs and Workshops….

Wounded Warrior Quilts

March 7th, 2008

This is a note from Therese and pictures of the quilts I sent to the WWB.
Lavella

"Therese Thomas, EA"
This one will be a quickie!!  Went to WWB yesterday to prepare income taxes again and lo and behold, a box of quilts had arrived during the week.  They were from the glorious ladies from the Santa Rosa Quilt Guild.  One of the Marines helping as photographic model had just arrived yesterday.  He started telling stories of his mothers quilts, storing up levis to make denim patchwork quilts and other quilting memories.  He had a great big grin on his face as he stroked the quilts and remembered.  Good job, ladies!
